We are in no rush to leave Jasper, so stop for coffee and a bran muffin, a read of the paper and some blogging at the Bears Paw Bakery. Had big plans for stopping for lunch on the road - making curried lentil soup while we enjoyed the great outdoors, but it was cool and rainy, so we settle for PB&J sandwiches and a nap.

Mostly dull and occasionally rainy as we drive south through BC. The devastation from the pine beetles is stunning - entire forests of deadwood with red, dying pines and healthy deciduous trees.

We stop in Kamloops to buy a can opener, a window thermometer and a tea-towel that actually absorbs water - we do not like Kamloops. It is confusing to find places, and when we finally find the BC Travel Info centre at 3pm on a Sunday, it is closed. We continue on towards Merritt, and when we find the Lac Le Jeune Provincial Park closed, decide to take a detour onto Hwy 97D to Logan Lake to see if we can find an open campground. The Logan Lake Municipal Campground is small and

pretty with sites right on the lake. We pull in and connect our power for the first time - nothing! Owen searches the campground until he finds a site, higher up, that does have power, and we decide to sacrifice scenery for comfort. The Host lady tells us that they aren't officially open until Friday, so we can stay for free, but there is no power (she apparently doesn't know about our pirated electricity) or water - the bathrooms are closed as well. So this will be our first night of self-sufficiency. Make the much anticipated lentil soup for dinner and it is filling and delicious. (Photo: the scenic, non-serviced spot)
