Wednesday morning we caught the 10:30 ferry to Nanaimo and then drove to Tofino - a rollercoaster of a highway - up, down, around bends, with lush green scenery all the way.
Went to Ucluelet first to have a look around - walked to a nice little lighthouse and along a path by the ocean, then headed towards Tofino. The Pacific Rim National Park has beautiful campsites -private and spread out so that you can barely see your neighbour, but no hookups and no sites available on the bluff (with an ocean view). We decide to check out the Bella Pacifica - I have been in touch with them and they felt there would be beachfront sites available at this time of year. We don't get a spot on the beach, but do have a site with a panoramic view of the ocean. The beach is clean, huge, flat and virtually uninhabited - we are a week early for tourist season, but have totally lucked out with the weather.
